About Stephen's Super Movers

Meet Stephen / Melissa Layland

Stephen's Super Movers started in 2019 when Stephen and Melissa Layland decided to build a moving company that actually answers the phone and shows up when it says it will. They run the business together out of Hall County, handling local moves across the metro Atlanta area and long-distance jobs throughout the Southeast and beyond. The crew wraps every piece of furniture in quilted moving blankets, uses dollies and hand trucks to protect floors, and labels boxes by room…

What people say after working with us.

Stephen and his crew did a fantastic job moving myself and girlfriend’s houses. They were very reasonably priced as well. I have a big safe that one well known company refused to move and Stephen and his guys moved it with no issue.

Stephen was such a huge help! I had a very large & heavy dresser that needed to be moved to my second floor. I contacted many moving companies and they all either refused to help or quoted me an outlandish price for moving one piece of furniture. Stephen was very understanding & helpful, giving me a reasonable quote for the task. He and his assistant arrived on time & knocked it out quick. From the initial communication to him leaving my house, he was wonderful to work with. I’d definitely recommend his services!!

Awesome team that saved us during our move. A different company ghosted us the day of and I was able to contact Stephen the next morning and have him and his partner show up last minute to help load a POD. They were communicative, fast, and super friendly. They took really good care of our stuff and packed our container efficiently so nothing shifted. Thank you guys again for helping us out, we would’ve been screwed without you!!

Cory and Elijah were amazing through the move. They handled everything with care and still were quick and efficient. Stephen was incredibly kind, thoughtful, and helpful when we discussed the move over the phone before and after even though it was last minute. Cory and Elijah have big hearts and despite their exhaustion did not fail to smile and make sure my sister and I were happy with the service and move from start to finish. Would 100% recommend this company for anyone who needs to move.

Frequently asked

Common questions, honest answers.

How far in advance should I book a move?

Three to four weeks if you're moving between May and August — that's peak season and weekends fill up fast across Hall County and the metro Atlanta area. One to two weeks is usually fine in the off-season (fall and winter). If you need a last-minute move, call anyway — we keep some availability open for short-notice jobs, especially for smaller loads.

How do you charge for local moves versus long-distance moves?

Local moves (within Hall County or under 50 miles) are billed hourly — truck, crew, fuel, and equipment included. The clock starts when we arrive at your first address and stops when we're done unloading. Long-distance moves are billed by weight or cubic footage, plus charges for stairs, long carry, and packing materials. You'll get a written estimate before the move.

What's included in the hourly rate for a local move?

The truck, a crew of three movers, fuel, moving blankets, dollies, hand trucks, shrink wrap, and basic tools for disassembly and reassembly. Packing materials (boxes, tape, paper) are extra. If you need us to pack for you, that's billed separately — either hourly or as a flat add-on.

Do I need to empty my dresser drawers before the move?

Lightweight items like clothes and linens can stay in the drawers — we'll wrap the whole dresser and move it as-is. Take out anything heavy, fragile, or valuable (jewelry, electronics, breakables). If the dresser is solid wood and fully loaded, we'll usually ask you to remove some items so it's not too heavy to carry safely.

What should I do to prepare for moving day?

Pack and label your boxes, or let us know ahead of time if you want us to pack. Clear a path from the door to the truck — move cars, toys, hoses, anything in the way. If there are stairs or tight doorways, measure large furniture to make sure it'll fit. Disconnect appliances if we're moving them. Have a plan for kids and pets so they're not underfoot during the move.

Can you move a piano or a gun safe?

Yes. Pianos and safes are specialty items that require extra equipment and crew. We use a piano dolly for uprights and a piano board for grands. Safes get moved with an appliance dolly or a motorized stair-climbing dolly if there are stairs. Both are quoted separately from the main move because of the equipment and liability involved.
